Aristelliger lar
Hispaniolan Giant Gecko

A "new world gecko" from the Caribbean, this is a large gecko, getting up to 12" long as adults. I picked up 2 unsexed little ones from Jon Boone at Tinley. I was looking for something unique and Jon said these were really cool geckos. That was good enough for me, and I snagged a couple. I love the bold striping on the tails and the distinctive spots on the shoulders. These geckos eat both insects and fruit in the wild. I intend to offer mostly insects, but will also offer some of the powdered diet commonly used for New Caledonian geckos. These guys are pretty quick movers, so upon unpacking from the show, this was the only picture I got that is somewhat in focus. Hopefully more to come.
